Shirley’s Home Cooking is located across from Watauga Lake on Highway 321 near Butler Tennessee and is owned and operated by Grant and Shirley Sharpe. Shirley’s opened in 1990 with only three tables, serving mainly local diners. However, word of Shirley’s homemade family style meals spread fast and renovations throughout the years allows Shirley’s to seat around 250 customers. Shirley’s has a lot to offer, including great food, a family atmosphere and a Country Store for browsing while you wait. The Country Store, headed up by Barbara Matheson and Kaylyn , Grant and Shirleys granddaughter has a wide variety of quilts, candies, jams, jellies, wooden toys and
other gifts. Also, there are items in the Country Store made by local craftsmen. New for the 09 season, is the addition of our Bakery. We will be preparing various home made items for sale and will be taking orders for specific baked items.
Family-style is serious business at Shirley’s and it starts in the kitchen where Angie, Shirley’s daughter in law spends most of her time. With help from Becky, Mary, Janice and Mick, they prepare, dip up, and deliver a choice of two meats and ten vegetables to the waiting customers who have traveled far and wide to experience a meal at Shirley’s. All the menu items are made from scratch, and if you order your meal “family style“, it’s all you care to eat. You can also order a Plate meal which consist of one meat and three vegetables. Included in your family style meal is a wide variety of homemade desserts that range from yellow cake with caramel icing to hot fudge cake and made from scratch fruit cobblers.
Shirleys son Jeff with Austin, Shirley and Grants grandson head up the family style breakfast. It is rapidly becoming a regular stop for tourist and locals coming to visit beautiful Watauga Lake. You can also order a plate breakfast.
Also on the menu this year is some great gospel, bluegrass and mountain music from 6pm to 8pm on Saturday evenings. And to kick off there family style fish fry which will be on the first Thursday of each month.
